From action.RAN.org
Developed by participants of the "Greening the Curriculum" workshop of Powershift09. Please add to it
(Group members: Dan, Trisha, Lena, Meredith, Elizabeth, Laura, Monica, Jeremy, Mark)
Eye-opening experiences like trips to farms and lessons around the field trip (Incorporate both the positive and the negative sides like a sustainable farm vs. a coal plant)
Having students figure out their own carbon footprint (http://www.climatecrisis.net/takeaction/carboncalculator/)
Addressing the challenge of self-centered mindset
Working with other faculty members
Achieve agreement on how to be a successful role model across the board
Keeping a “green curriculum” within different disciplines (Marketing/Science/Business)
How does this fit into your prospective job?
Have a competition- school or class wide to challenge students and push them to do their best to support the environment
“Environthon” program-hands-on class
Keep in touch with guidance councilors so students learn about prospective jobs (green!) because not everybody is planning on going to college
Extra Credit/Projects: Where does your electricity come from? Where does the water in your faucet come from?
“Model UN/General Assembly”- Have students act out roles and have them stand for environmental issues that they have to research
As an assignment: Write a letter to your congressman regarding an issue you are passionate about
